Jennifer Lopez may be well-known around the world for her successful singing career, but the American star continues to make waves on the red carpet. Following a career that has seen her star in Hollywood films such as Maid in Manhattan and Selena, as well as receive musical accolades such as the MTV Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award and the People’s Choice Awards for “Favourite Celebrity Judge” on American Idol, the Bronx-born performer recently celebrated her 50th birthday.
Throughout her nearly three-decade career, the actress has released several perfumes, clothing lines, and eyewear collections, and she recently announced the launch of a skin-care line later this year. Lopez received the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s (CFDA) Fashion Icon Award, following in the footsteps of Rihanna, Beyoncé, and Lady Gaga.
In response to the news, Diane von Furstenberg, fashion designer and chairwoman of the CFDA board, stated that the decision was made based on the singer’s ability to “express confidence and power” through fashion.
